An ad for the Food Bunker boasts that you need it as a man who is just over it throws ordinary plastic containers off of a counter. A pretty bold claim right off the bat, and you can’t help but be captivated by the whistling tune in the video. This silicone food container is perfect for storing everything from soup to rice to trail mix. Additionally, these snap closed so you won’t have to worry about an avalanche of Tupperware lids falling from your cabinets. True enough, but we found that they attracted a lot of dust and hair. It can sometimes leak liquid if you squeeze it too tightly.
Detailed Review:
Food Bunker is a smart solution to food storage that eliminates the need for Ziploc bags and plastic containers. Having tested them in multiple capacities for over a month, we can confirm they are microwave and dishwasher safe. These containers aren’t just for packing lunch or road trip snacks; you can store leftovers or store food in your pantry with them. We initially thought they were similar to Stasher Reusable Silicone Bags, with which we have had great success. They do differ in some ways, however. Traveling with Stasher Bags makes it easier to carry sandwiches, snacks, and even toiletries. Bunkers are deeper tub/bag hybrids, so they can hold liquids or dry pantry items better. When you’re going camping or on a road trip and want to bring some chili, for example, the Food Bunker is a better choice. Furthermore, when full, they stand up entirely on their own, making them perfect for mindless snacking at work. Which, by the way, we are doing right now. Silicone Food Bags Silicone Food Bags
Food Bunker Silicone Bag vs. Stasher:
Choosing between the Food Bunker Silicone Bag and the Stasher Go Bag, we chose the three-pack that comes with a small, medium, and large bag. The small weighs 17 ounces, the medium weighs 34 ounces, and the large weighs 51 ounces. Pink, light blue, and green are soft colors reminiscent of spring. However, we chose white because that’s our favorite color. The Food Bunker surprised us with its ability to hold liquids, as we were skeptical they would be leakproof. We first tested the Food Bunker with water, so that if it burst, none of our precious food would be wasted. When we squeezed it hard enough – and by hard enough we mean like our worst enemy – some water gushed out. In the course of testing, we had this happen once when we haphazardly squeezed a soup can upside down while it was inside the refrigerator.
Usage & Features:
Silicone is used for making Food Bunkers. Because of this, they can be microwaved and eaten. It’s not really recommended to eat out of one that’s full of soup for a few reasons. It gets pretty hot inside the Bunkers in the microwave, so it’s not fun to touch. Two, even though the bottom is more tub-shaped, getting a spoon in and out is pretty difficult. It’s a good idea Consider them as maximum fill lines as well. Food Bunker a When you clasp the Food Bunker shut, your food will spill out if you fill it all the way to the top (past the line). Snap the clasps together and press the bunker closed at the top. (Except for the one-off soup incident we mentioned earlier, the seals are pretty tight even upside down). As frequent packers of lunches for work and social events, we’re big fans of this system. It occurs when you track all of your daily calories in hopes of losing a few pounds so that your clothes fit better. But that’s another story. There are a lot of Tupperware containers with misplaced or deformed lids, so we are glad we just threw everything in a bunker, snapped it up, and left.
